European Cup: „Dragunas“ will meet an Israeli team
Pairings for the first two qualification rounds have been determined on Tuesday in the larget draw event of the whole season in the EHF Office in Vienna.
„Dragūnas“ will face „Maccabi Rishon Lezion“ from Israel in the qualifying round.
According to „Dragūnas“ head coach Artūras Juškėnas, it is a strong club with long history.
„Maccabi Rishon Lezion“ dates back to 1950. It was one of the first handball clubs in Israel. For a long time, the club couldn’t congratulate itself on bigger victories, but around 1980 it changed. In 10 years since then club has won the national championship five times, the national championship four times and reached the European Cup semi-finals in 1984. In total, the Israeli champion has become a dozen times.
The first meeting between „Dragūnas“ and „Maccabi Rishon Lezion“ is scheduled for August 31 – September 1, and the matchup is scheduled for September 7-8.
Also Lithuanian handball teams will participate in EHF Challenge Cup: VHC Šviesa, „Granitas-Karys“ and „Kauno Ąžuolas-KTU“.
